THE BASICS

For this 2019 edition devoted to movement, Didier Fusillier, artistic director, accompanied by Jean-Max Colard, artistic consultant, offers an extraordinary and outside-of-Paris programme, which run counter the many frontiers of art, be they mental or physical. A fully-in-motion Nuit Blanche, where artists’ works parade as creative floats, surrounded by musical groups, where the artists themselves wander in singular and poetic fashion around the city. And in this general movement you too are invited to actively participate in this 17th Nuit Blanche of another kind:

[THE PARADE]

Popular and filled with sounds, joyful and spectacular, the Parade is the beating heart of this Nuit Blanche in motion. On wheels or a platform, inflatable or pulled by horses, twelve unreleased monumental works have been conceived by contemporary artists and will parade in a festive atmosphere. Led by performers, musicians and DJs, they circulate in music from Place de la Concorde to Place de la Bastille through several points in the city. The occasion is exceptional: watching a mobile exhibition of disparate works go by, be they over-the-top or fantastic, poetic or exuberant.

[STROLLER ARTISTS]

Common to many Parisians, walking has become a full-blown artistic practice in the twentieth century. It can convey assertions, make it possible to lay claim to a space or to discover it through a new lens. Stroller-artists circulate in the Parisian metropolis in motion all night. Some whisk the public away with them, others offer a performance in which you can participate. Others cross the city in a more solitary, more poetic fashion.

[LA GRANDE TRAVERSÉE] (the great crossing)

Somewhere between sport and culture, Nuit Blanche offers an unusual and unique experience in view of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games: race across the city and enter the most prestigious cultural institutions (but while walking this time). From the Théâtre du Châtelet in Chaillot - Théâtre national de la Danse et du Louvre médiéval (National Theatre of Dance and Medieval Louvre) to Centre Pompidou: two 10-km routes are offered from Place de la Concorde. Registration required.

[THE VELODROME]

For one night, from Porte de Pantin to Porte de la Villette, a portion of the ring road is exceptionally closed to cars and transformed into a citizen velodrome lighted up by the 1024 Architecture collective. Designed for all, the route forms a loop adapted to everyone's speeds. Nuit Blanche, an event dedicated to contemporary art in all its forms, is organised by the City of Paris since 2002.
